Passive House Schools
Passive House school buildings are particularly interesting. Several school buildings have been realised using this standard and experiences gained from their use are now available: The PassiveHouse Standards allows for energy savings of around 75% in comparison with average new school buildings - and of course there is no need for an additional heating or cooling system. The additional investment costs are within reasonable limits. Source: http://passipedia.passiv.de/passipedia_de/
WHY SCHOOL BUILDING IN PASSIVE HOUSE?
In a Passive House school the heat from 25 pupils and a teacher is enough (1.5 kW), to keep the classroom comfortable warm during the whole year. The expenditure for the PH insulation is therefore smaller than for residential PH-buildings. Besides a PH school is good-natured. Even in case of failure of the heating over days room temperatures under 16-18 oC are expected. The PH windows guarantee comfort also at the window seat in winter. In summer the PH-school guarantees a better climate (less hot) than a standard school with the same standard summer thermal protection (heavy construction, automatic external aluminium jalousie, night ventilation). By building a school in PH-standard not only the running costs are reduced substantially above all there is better learning conditions for the pupils and better conditions of work for the teachers are created.
Capital Funded Projects
If you are extending your school we provide full architectural, engineering and project management services. We specialize in the Design & Management of Mainstream & Special Needs Classroom Extensions to Passive House Standard.
School Energy Audits
The function of an energy audit is to expose different ways to affect energy consumption and identify numerous options for reducing energy consumption. We provide Energy Audits for all types and sizes of schools. Our services can be a quick Energy Audit or we can prepare a full energy report. The energy audit will assess the school’s energy usage and will demonstrate how a school can introduce sustainable energy practices and cost saving measures.
Display Energy Certificates
A display energy certificate is a requirement with every grant application. We can prepare and submit the information for the completion of a detailed DEC energy assessment.
Water Conservation Measures
We can propose measures for schools to reduce water consumption.
Rainwater Harvesters fall into category 10 of Summer Works Schemes.
